Meet Kim Claypoole, restaurateur, reluctant heroine and amateur sleuth with moxie galore. "I'd had a feeling all along that this wasn't going to be my day. But I hadn't been prepared for things to go this badly..."
In Small Town Trouble, the first in a series from mystery writer Jean Erhardt, we get acquainted with Kim Claypoole's irreverent and witty ways of dealing with the peculiar characters and events that she finds in her life.
Claypoole's adventure begins as she leaves her home in the Smoky Mountains to help save her kooky mother Evelyn from financial disaster. Setting off to assist Evelyn (i.e., "the other Scarlett O'Hara") with her newest personal crisis, Claypoole leaves in her wake her Gatlinburg doublewide, her restaurant, The Little Pigeon and her restaurant partner and sometimes best friend Mad Ted Weber as well as a budding secret love affair that's hotter than an Eskimo in July.
Claypoole's savior complex leads to more trouble when she bumps into an old flame in her hometown who asks for her help clearing her hapless brother of murder charges. In true Claypoole fashion, she gets more than she bargained for when she gets dragged into a complicated quest to find the true killer complete with topless tavern dancers, small town cops, a stream of backwater characters-even a meeting with the Grim Reaper. Can Claypoole muddle her way through the murky depths of this bizarre murder mystery before it's too late?
With biting humor and wit, Small Town Trouble will leave you guessing what's around the next corner in the quirky life of Kim Claypoole.

I have to go with a max of three for this book. The story was pretty good and it was definitely a fun read but there were just so many editing errors that I can't go any higher. It's also really dated. The book was published in 2013 but it reads like something that was written in the early 90s and not updated to bring it up to date. There are lots of jokes and pop-culture references that are likely won't be understood or appreciated by anyone not at least in their 40s. Luckily for me, that's where I fit so I got a kick out of them.

Small Town Trouble edition by Jean Erhardt Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I can imagine knowing the characters in Small Town Trouble...in fact, they would be good friends. I read the book first while vacationing and did not put it down until I finished it. It is clear that the author knows the areas and culture of the towns she describes. I read the book again last month and enjoyed it even more the second time. I feel like I know Kim Claypoole ..she may have played on my college softball team.
I am looking forward to the next book !
This was a good book. I really enjoyed the authors sense of humor and writing style. I wanted more romance, but that's just me, and no one said it was a romance. Definitely worth the time, and of course, I loved the price.
This is the first book I've read by Jean Erhardt. She has a quick wit and a free flowing style.
The characters are fun and wonderfully quirky. Ms. Erhardt has a good imagination that takes you through the whodunit.
This is a great story written in first person. Great comedic dialogue, colorful characters and a strong lead who guides us through it all. The disappointment was no sex scenes, but it was a great story that had me reading non stop to finish.
What a wonderful romp through the small town American landscape that many of us grew up in! The sometimes very humorous, tongue in cheek, realistic attitude of the hero, Kim Claypoole, as she makes her journey back home to see to her mother's affairs, provides all of us, who have ever traveled "back home" with a unique insight. We learn that we are not the only ones to ever experience our family's quirky doings and crazy antics! And because our heroine leaves us with unanswered questions about her future love life, I'm sure we will be meeting her again after she returns to her Tennessee home! When I found that Kim's eccentric mother was named "Evelyn", I was totally taken in!!! Had I found my literary twin? heheh!!
I loved the humor and hilarious comments Kim was constantly making. It was obvious that the author and I grew up at about the same time. There were many references to my high school years. My sister lives in Cincinnati so many things were familiar. I too, love Graeter's ice cream. I can't wait to read the next Kim Claypool mystery. I would highly recommend this book to my friends.
I enjoyed this book. I thought it struck a nice balance between humor and mystery. The author does a good job of staying a pace or two ahead of the reader just when you think you've figured it all out, more is revealed. There were some extraneous characters and at least one plot hole, but overall I thought this was a fun mystery. It's been years since I read Rita Mae Brown, but she's the writer that came to mind as I was reading. I think this would appeal to fans of hers.
I have to go with a max of three for this book. The story was pretty good and it was definitely a fun read but there were just so many editing errors that I can't go any higher.
